01
OUR LEATHERWORKThe material, the handwork, and why every finished piece has its own character.
-
Yes. Our leather options are cut from genuine hides, selected for their feel, appearance, and ability to become part of a grip that is made to be played—not just displayed.
-
Leather is a natural material, so grain, tone, texture, and small markings will vary from piece to piece. Those differences are part of the hide’s character and mean no two Below Par leather inserts will be exactly alike.
-
Each insert is individually cut, prepared, and hand-finished before it is paired with the grip. We pay close attention to thickness, edge quality, alignment, and the way the leather sits against the grip body.
-
Yes—and that is part of what makes it special. With regular play, leather may soften slightly, deepen in color, and develop a natural patina where your hands make contact. It becomes more personal the more rounds you put on it.
-
Small variations in grain, color, pores, or natural markings are normal and are not defects. We inspect every piece before it leaves the shop and avoid areas that would compromise the insert’s fit or performance.
-
The leather adds a warm, natural contact surface with its own texture and response. The exact feel varies by leather and finish, while the grip body continues to provide the underlying shape and structure.
-
Leather colors, finishes, and engraved designs may vary by release. Available options will always be shown on the product page, and special drops may include patterns or artwork not offered year-round.
GRIP & FIT02
How it feels, what it fits, and what makes the construction different..
-
Below Par combines a structured grip body with carefully finished contact materials, including leather. The goal is a stable shape, intentional hand placement, and a grip that feels crafted rather than mass-produced.
-
Our grips are designed for standard putter shafts. If your putter uses an unusual shaft profile, counterweight, or proprietary fitting, contact us before ordering and we’ll help confirm compatibility.
-
Expect a structured, stable feel with clear feedback through the stroke. Leather-equipped options add a natural texture and warmer hand feel without turning the grip into an overly soft or heavily cushioned surface.
-
Grip bodies, leather colors, and finishes may change by drop. The product page will show the exact combinations currently available, including any limited leather releases.
03
LEATHER CARESimple care that protects the feel, finish, and natural character.
-
Start with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. If more cleaning is needed, use a barely damp cloth and wipe gently. Do not soak the leather, scrub aggressively, or use household cleaners, alcohol, or harsh solvents.
-
Wipe the grip down promptly and allow it to air-dry naturally at room temperature. Keep it away from heaters, direct high heat, and prolonged sun while drying.
-
Use conditioner sparingly and only when recommended for your specific leather finish. Too much product can darken the leather, change the hand feel, soften edges, or affect the bond to the grip. We recommend and use Leather Honey. (not affiliated)
-
Store the club in a dry, temperature-stable place. Avoid leaving it for long periods in a hot vehicle, standing water, or a damp golf bag.
04
INSTALLATIONGetting the grip aligned and ready for the course.
-
If you are comfortable replacing a traditional putter grip, installation should feel familiar. For the cleanest alignment and finish, a local golf shop or club builder is always a solid choice.
-
The grip installs onto the putter as a complete assembly. Avoid pulling, soaking, clamping, or applying installation chemicals directly to the leather contact areas.
-
Removal may damage the grip, insert, or adhesive bond. If you plan to move the grip to another putter, have an experienced club builder evaluate it first.
